Design
The Huawei Matebook E 2-in-1 comes in two color variants. While we couldn’t lay our hands on the Nebula Gray variant, we did manage to spend some days with the Navy Blue color, and it is an impressive finish.
The front houses a 12.9 inch OLED display that offers an immersive viewing experience with vivid colors. Since it has small and symmetrical bezels, it has an excellent 90% screen-to-body ratio, enhancing the viewing experience.
Despite packing in a 42Wh battery, the Matebook E 2-in-1 is a slim laptop measuring around 7.99mm. This slimness allows it to be portable, and the handling experience is at par with other rivals. You can carry this laptop in the tightest backpacks without breaking a sweat.
We have two grids on all four sides that dissipate heat and house the built-in speakers. While we loved using this notebook as a conventional laptop, the experience changes when you use it as a tablet. You have dedicated buttons for the power/lock button that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner.
The presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a welcome addition, and while the built-in speakers were not the loudest, it does a satisfactory job.
Overall, the Huawei Matebook E 2-in-1 impressed us with its design, and we bet you will like it too.
Display
The 12.6-inch OLED display features a 16:10 Aspect Ratio, which is better for both movies and office workloads. Additionally, the Quad HD+ resolution ensures that everything looks more natural. The P3 color gamut technology adds flair to the viewing experience as it can display 16.7M colors at 240PPI.
You can amp the display brightness up to 600nits, which is excellent for outdoor visibility. The viewing angles are amazing, and as the display comes with a Rheinland Global Eye Protection 2.0 certification, you will have no issues while consuming content or working in any condition.
The Matebook E 2-in-1 fared well during our tests and provided satisfactory results in most departments. However, we did miss manual controls to brightness settings, which is a bit of a letdown compared to other rivals. Additionally, the peak brightness level can differ depending upon your usage, affecting battery life.
Tablet mode
Since the Matebook E 2-in-1 is a convertible, we did find ourselves turning to the tablet mode more often. This mode enhances your experience, and tasks like drawing or taking notes feel more natural.
As a standalone device, you can use this tablet to click some pictures and edit them on the go without attaching the magnetic keyboard. The 13MP rear camera produces decent images and records videos in 4K at 30fps.
And while we felt the camera could have been better, it allows you to capture content quickly. The front-facing 8MP camera is decent, and we had no issues while making video calls.
One of the main highlights of using the Matebook E 2-in-1 as a tablet is its stylus support. You get a second-generation Huawei M-pencil with a textured design for better grip.
Here are the features of the M-pencil:
- 2ms ultra-low latency
- 4096 pressure sensitivity levels
- Magnetic points for charging
- It can process inputs in 0.1mm second
Additionally, this notebook features an anti-mistouch algorithm, which ensures that you can rest your palm on the screen while writing without disturbing the display.
Magnetic keyboard
The Huawei Smart Magnetic keyboard or the Huawei Yue Slide keyboard would be the options you can pick while purchasing a Matebook E 2-in-1. Both keyboards have different functionalities, but we liked using the former more.
It has an ultra-light design, and the PU leather feels premium. We loved the long keystroke of the keyboard, which enhances the typing experience. The magnetic keyboard supports your Matebook E 2-in-1, and you can adjust the tilt from 110° to 160° as per your requirements.
We had been using this notebook for some time now, and we had seldom run into issues while using this magnetic keyboard. It is snappy, comfortable, and provides an excellent typing experience. Additionally, the built-in NFC sensor allows you to connect NFC-supported devices for sharing files.
Battery
The Huawei Matebook E 2-in-1 comes with a 42Wh Lithium Polymer battery which can fuel your device for up to 8 hours. However, the usage can differ depending on your use, and we got past the 3-hour mark under heavy use with 20% left.
Thankfully, this notebook supports fast charging, and you will get a 65W charger in the box. This charger takes 30 minutes to charge your notebook from 0 to 54% and 90 minutes to charge your device entirely.
Final Thought
The Huawei Matebook E 2-in-1 is an admirable performance. It comes with a combination of an 11th generation Core i7 processor, 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM, 512GB SSD storage, which can ease through most business and entertainment purposes with ease.
Whether you use it as a conventional laptop or tablet PC, the Matebook E 2-in-1 packs in performance in a lightweight body. It offers a complete experience and will meet all your expectations, from work to consuming multimedia.
Overall, the Huawei Matebook E 2-in-1 is one of the best convertible notebooks you can buy in 2022.
