If you are not able to rotate a video in the Windows Media Player then it becomes quite annoying for you. Take a look at some of the easy hacks where you will know how to rotate a video in Windows Media Player.

Using Windows Movie Maker

The Windows Movie Maker is a software that helps you to rotate a video in Windows media player while you are watching a clip. The Movie Maker was previously backed by Microsoft. However, the entire suite lost its support from Microsoft in 2010. To rotate a video in Windows media player, you can use the Windows Movie Maker if you are already having the software prior to the year 2010. Or you can also use it offline to watch videos. This is probably the most convenient method to rotate a video in Windows Media Player. However, the process is a bit time consuming while you are working on it.

Take a look at the steps regarding how to rotate a video in Windows Media Player. If you want to rotate it using the Movie Maker then you have to install the software at first.

If you want to download the latest software, then follow the steps. Since it is banned hence the download link can’t be found on the official site. So you can download the software from an external source. Make sure that you have a well-defined antivirus installed in your system. This is because while you are downloading the software there might be a chance that the computer might be attacked by malware or spyware. After completing the download procedure, install the Windows Essentials 2012.

Once the download is complete, open the installer and click on ‘Choose the programs you want to install’. In the next screen, check the box next to Photo Gallery and Movie Maker and leave the other boxes unchecked. Hit Install and wait for the process to complete. Now play the video and figure out how you want to rotate it. Now you have to select the Home option followed by the Editing option. There will be two buttons which are the Rotate Right and Rotate Left. If you tap either of the buttons it will rotate to 90 degrees. Use the combination to set the correct orientation. Now, save the video by going to the File and Save options respectively. At last, play the Windows Media Player to see if it has the right orientation or not.

Using VLC Media Player

On the other hand, you can also use the VLC media player to fix the glitch that you are currently encountering. Rotating video in the VLC media player is not as easy as you might face in the Windows Movie Maker. To access the feature of rotating a video, you might need to update the program to its latest version.

After you have installed the VLC player, you need to right-click on the video in question and then choose the Open With option. Now, you need to click on the VLC media player. When the video opens in VLC, select Tools and then hit on the Effects and Filters option. Now, in the Adjustments and Effects window, you need to select the Video Effects tab and finally choose Geometry. When the window opens, you need to check the box which is next to the Transform option. Now, select the drop-down menu and choose a preset that fixes the image. Finally, you need to hit on the Close option to save your selection. You can also do it manually by choosing the Rotate box and then choose the slider to rotate the video.

The changes that you have created are not permanent, you need to make them visible in the Windows Media Player. To do this process, you need to perform the following steps:

  1. First, you need to click on Tools and then select Preferences. When the window appears you need to enable the All toggle option which is under the Show Settings option.
  2. Now, go to the South stream heading and choose the Transcode option. Then you need to check the box which is next to the Rotate video filter option. Save all the changes that you have created.
  3. Open the Media tab and click on Convert or Save.
  4. Upon opening, you need to click on the Add button to select the video that you had modified. Use the drop-down menu that appears on your computer screen and set it to Convert.
  5. When the Convert window opens do not make any changes here. Choose the Browse button and then hit Start to begin the process.
  6. When the process completes and the video is ready to use you can open it on any application.

Using A Video Converter

Alternatively, you can also use a video converter to fix the glitch.  You can use any video converter and then try if the video rotates. The configurations of all the video converters are almost the same. Click and open the program and then go to the File option and also choose Add video. Add the video that you want to change. When the video appears, you need to click on the Edit icon present on the right side of your screen.

Now, you will find the Rotate button. Click on that until the video is oriented in the correct way. Click on the OK button to save the changes made. At last, you have to choose a conversion type in which you want the clip to save. Then you have to select a path for the newly converted video to save. Now, hit the Convert button and wait for the process to complete. After that run the clip to see if it is running with the proper orientation or not.
