Method 1: Clear Cache and Cookies

Cache and cookies refer to temporary files and folders that accumulate on your PC due to web surfing. Moreover, they are necessary to speed up the loading speed of a website.

It is essential to clear cache and cookies periodically from your PC. Otherwise, these might interfere with some of the applications installed on your PC. 

Thus, we have explained how to clear cache and cookies in the following steps:

1. Open the Chrome browser and click the three vertical lines at the top-right corner of the screen. 
2. Now, click ‘More Tools’ and choose ‘Clear browsing data’ under it. 
3. From the drop-down menu select the time range for which you want to clear the cache.
4. Then, tap the ‘Clear Data’ button and wait until Windows clears the browser cache. 
5. Next, open a new tab in Chrome and search for something to check whether Chrome is responding or not. 

Method 2: Disable Chrome Add-ons

Add-ons are extensions that allow users to do more things in their browser. Though add-ons improve user experience, they might overload the browser and affect its working. 

Therefore, disable these add-ons temporarily to see whether Chrome responds correctly or not.

Method 3: Update Device Drivers

Older versions of device drivers might prevent Chrome from responding to the command of its users. So, get the latest version of drivers by the following steps:

1. Press Windows logo key and ‘R’ simultaneously to open the Run application. 
2. Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ into the Run dialog box and click ‘OK’ to open Device Manager. 
3. Navigate to the ‘Hardware and devices’ on the Device Manager window and expand this section. 
4. Check all devices to know which of them lack an updated driver. 
5. A device will require an update if it has a yellow-colored icon next to it. 
6. So, right-click on the device and tap the ‘Check for updates’ button.
7. Now Windows start searching for an updated driver and install the same on your PC. 
8. Repeat the same steps to update drivers for other devices as well.

Alternatively, you can update the device drivers from the Settings app. To do that, go to Settings and navigate to the ‘Update and Security’ section.

1. Press Windows key and ‘R’ at the same time to open the Run application. 
2. Type ‘firewall.cpl’ into the Run dialog box and click the ‘OK’ button. 
3. Then, check the box for ‘Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.’
4. Next, tap the ‘OK’ button to save the changes.
5. Launch Chrome and check whether you have resolved the Chrome not responding issue or not. 

Method 5: Update or Reinstall Google Chrome

Problems can arise if you are running an older version of Chrome. So, update Chrome and see whether the new version functions correctly or not. 

1. Open Chrome and go to the ‘Help’ menu. 
2. Click ‘About Google Chrome’ to check for the available update. 
3. If Chrome displays an update, then follow the on-screen instructions to update Chrome. 
4. You won’t find an update if you are already running an updated version of Chrome. 
5. Therefore, open Device Manager and click ‘Programs and Features.’
6. Then search for Chrome among the list of installed devices, right-click on it and select the ‘Uninstall’ option. 
7. Click ‘OK’ on the confirmation dialog box and wait until the uninstallation process is completed.
